However real Christmas trees can be taken to three different sites in the city of Albuquerque from Jan. 2 to the 13th. By Christmas Eve in 1942, I was sick. Our little cedar Christmas tree, cut from the fence row where the birds had planted it years earlier, was decorated with one strand of colored lights. Our family never exchanged gifts, but Santa Claus always came to see me; but that morning I was too sick to go down to the tree, so Mama brought my gifts upstairs where she and Daddy and I shared a bedroom. It was a very sad Christmas anyway because my 19-year-old sister had “run away and got married” just a month earlier.

There’s good news if you did most of your shopping online this year — all those shipping boxes that are now piling up in your garage can be recycled in your blue bin. All you have to do is remove any tape and flatten them before tossing them in the recycling.
